1978 - Donna Herring

Interviewed by Peter Rumsey and Liisa Ogburn on March 17, 2011

Donna Herring

Donna Herring lived at 400 Polk Street with her husband Oakley  from 1978 until 2005.

Stewart (Cash) always had a tale to tell when he would come sit on our porch. You know, when Oak fell and we knew we were going to lose him, Stewart came over one night and he had baked this gorgeous cake like you have never seen in your life and he said, ‘I’ve brought this in honor of the memories on the front porch. I have had experiences all over the world now. I’ve been very successful, but there was never a time that i was so happy as I was on your front porch, giggling and talking like we used to do.’ It really was true. There was a whole group of us who would gather there every afternoon, including the Governor (Hunt).”
