One of Raleigh's longest-held holiday traditions invites visitors on an intimate tour of Historic Oakwood residences during the 47th annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour® on Saturday and Sunday, December 8 & 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Homes featured in the tour date from late-1800’s to mid-1900’s, and range in style from Queen Anne cottages to Neoclassical Revival and Italianate residences. Attendees will witness a mix of holiday décor, either mirroring the home's yesteryears or matching today’s modern lifestyle of the homeowners. Docents at each stop offer insider information such as the home’s unique features, the family lineage and surrounding community.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to open up the doors to these beautiful Historic Oakwood homes during the season,” said Kate Bronstein, Oakwood resident and tour chairperson. “The entire neighborhood buzzes with holiday cheer this time of year – truly a magical season. As always, we are grateful to both the homeowners who open their homes for this event, but also to the public, which makes this event one of Raleigh’s long-standing traditions.”
Ticket holders are welcome to tour the properties at their own pace, typically allowing three to four hours to view all the featured homes and the neighborhood. The annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour benefits the non-profit organization The Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood. Advance tickets are available now for purchase for $25 online at www.historicoakwood.org, or beginning November 10th at Logan’s Trading Company, 707 Semart Drive, Seaboard Station, Raleigh. Group rates are also available through December 1. Day-of tickets will be available at The Tucker House, 418 N. Person St. Advance purchases are highly encouraged as 2017 sold out.

The Oakwood Garden Club will continue a spring tradition with the 29th Annual Oakwood Garden Tour and Tea on Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd, 2018. Guests will be treated to a complimentary Victorian Tea, followed by walking tours of some of the best gardens of Historic Oakwood.

It is spring cleaning time again and the Oakwood neighborhood is planning a neighborhood yard sale for Saturday, April 14th from 8AM to Noon. A dozen or more homes are expected to participate. Items such as housewares, art, clothing, furniture and electronics will be for sale.
Just one sample of an items table from the last sale.
